About Ekaterina

When Ekaterina first came to me at Wicked Pass Driving School, it was clear that this was about far more than just learning to drive. For Ekaterina, getting behind the wheel carried a weight that most learners never have to carry.

Having grown up in a family where nobody owned a car, driving was not something she had ever been surrounded by or exposed to. It was an entirely unfamiliar world, and that made the prospect of learning feel all the more daunting.

On top of that, Ekaterina suffered from severe anxiety specifically around driving. Getting into the car was something she had actively wanted to avoid, yet she knew that obtaining her licence was something she needed to do.

That tension, between knowing she had to do something and being genuinely afraid of it, made her journey one of the most emotionally significant I have been part of.

Challenges To Overcome

Ekaterina's challenges were deeply personal. With no driving history in her family background, she had no frame of reference to draw on. There was no parent who had sat in the passenger seat with her, no early experiences to build from. She was starting completely from scratch, and she knew it.

Her anxiety made every lesson feel like an emotional hurdle before it had even begun. She had also worked with other driving instructors previously, and those experiences had done little to build her confidence. By the time she came to me, her self-belief was at a very low point.

From a practical standpoint, Ekaterina found multitasking behind the wheel particularly difficult. Processing multiple pieces of information at once, something that driving constantly demands, was a real challenge for her, and it required a patient, structured approach to address properly.

How We Tackled Them Together

From the very beginning, my priority was to understand Ekaterina as an individual. I took time to identify her strengths alongside her weaknesses, so that we could build her training around what she was capable of, rather than focusing solely on what she found difficult.

We began with the fundamentals: gear changes, mirror and signal timing, road positioning, and lane discipline. These were the building blocks, and I made sure she had the time she needed to absorb and practise each one properly before we moved on.

There was no rush. Every step was taken at her pace.

Once those foundations were solid, we progressed to more complex scenarios: mini roundabouts, spiral roundabouts, and all five manoeuvres required for the practical test.

I also introduced sat nav early in her training, giving her plenty of time to become comfortable with it rather than leaving it as something unfamiliar on test day.

Throughout all of this, I made sure Ekaterina always felt safe and supported in the car.

There were moments when it became overwhelming, and she would become emotional, which was completely understandable given everything she was navigating.

Whenever that happened, we simply paused.

We gave her the time and space she needed to recompose, and then we carried on. Her feelings were never an inconvenience. They were part of the journey.

Ekaterina's Progress

The change across our lessons was genuinely a pleasure to witness.

As her technical skills developed, so too did her confidence. Slowly but surely, the anxiety that had once made getting into the car feel impossible began to loosen its grip.

She became more reflective about her own driving, something I always encourage thinking critically about what she was doing and why. That kind of self-awareness is what turns a learner into a truly safe driver, rather than someone who can simply pass a test.

By the time her test date arrived, Ekaterina was ready: not just technically, but emotionally. She had done the work, and it showed.

What Ekaterina Said

"Ash gave me the time and space to go through my emotions whilst building up my confidence. It was a journey but I wouldn't have been able to get here without him." — Ekaterina Suvandzhieva

The Result

Ekaterina passed her practical driving test, and in her own words, she was emotional when it happened, because passing meant so much more to her than a licence. It was proof of what she was capable of.

For someone who had grown up without driving in her family, and who had spent so long believing that getting behind the wheel simply was not for her, it was a moment of genuine personal achievement.

It was a privilege to be part of it.

Ekaterina's Full Testimonial

"Cannot recommend enough! Honestly look no further for a driving instructor and get signed up with Wicked Pass, namely my instructor was Ash. He is simply the best out there. He will make sure to get to know you and understand your needs.

As a female with severe anxiety surrounding the topic of driving, getting into the car was something that I wanted to avoid at all costs, but I knew I needed to get a licence. Ash gave me the time and space to go through my emotions whilst building up my confidence.

It was a journey but I wouldn't have been able to get here without him. Today, I got my driving licence, and I'm so emotional because passing means so much to me, coming from a background where my family do not own a car.

Ash showed me so much kindness and patience and taught me how to drive precisely and how to be reflective of my own driving practice. Don't believe me, call him and see for yourself."
